Tolo Dance Information
- Tolo will be Saturday, April 20th from 7-10pm
- Must have ID for entry into dance
- Students can purchase tickets before and after school, ten minute break and at lunch.
- Tickets are sold individually:
- $15 with ASB
- $20 without ASB
- Last day to purchase is Apr 19, 2024
- If you are taking a guest to Tolo, please make sure and submit a completed Guest Pass form. Turn in the completed form with guest ID to the front office.
- Guest Pass forms are due by Wednesday, April 17th.
- We are looking for volunteers to help chaperone the dance. Please email [email protected]. It's a really fun time and a great way to get involved in our school community!

8th Grade Parent Information Night
Families of current 8th graders, please join us for 8th grade Parent Information Night on Tuesday 4/23/24 at 5:30PM in the PAC. Families will receive an overview about High School, and then get a brief tour of the school as well as an opportunity to meet with subject area department leads to learn about Academics offered at CHS.

CHSPO Cougar Car Show and Craft Fair is Coming!
Please join CHSPO for our Cougar Craft Fair and Car Show Fundraiser on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m.--3 p.m. We will have 40 handcraft vendors and our inaugural Cougar Car Show!
Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Sign up here to help.
Our very own Cougarettes Dance Team will perform as well as Studio West Dance Academy. Sweetlee's Ice Cream, La Esquinita Taco Truck, Camper's Coffee, and a photo booth truck will be out front. Go to

UPCOMING CLASS PRODUCTIONS
THE CAST LIST: Our 4th period Intro to Theatre class is producing, The Cast List. This short One-Act takes a humorous look at the anxiety and challenges of waiting for the cast list to be posted. From the over eager student awaiting the posting, to the sly actor seeking some assistance from the costumer, to the parents with their own agenda, this play speaks to all of us who have ever awaited their dream role. Performing in the Black Box Theatre (park in the lower lot, and enter between the PAC and music wing), at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12th. This is a free performance, although cash donations will be accepted at the door.

TROUBLE AT THE TALENT SHOW: Our 3rd period Improvisational Theatre class is producing Trouble at the Talent Show! An Audience-Participation Mystery. It is time for a great talent show, featuring students and staff at Capital High School; however, when something goes terribly wrong, it is up to the audience to help solve the mystery. This production includes talent, a clue hunt, and dessert! Come join us on Friday, April 19th at 7 p.m. in the CHS Performing Arts Center. Recommended donation is $10 (at the door).

Summer Volleyball Camp
OC Summer Volleyball Camp will be held June 20th, 21st, 22nd at Olympia High School. High School Camp is from 9am-12pm for incoming 9th-12th graders. Middle School Camp from 1:30-4:30pm for incoming 6th-8th graders (incoming in the FALL 2024). Registration and payment must be made in order to save your spot. Space is limited. Sign up early.

Brain Train - After School Bus
An after-school bus is available for those students who choose to stay after school for academic support. The bus departs the CHS bus loop at 4:15 every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The bus will drop students off at their normal morning/afternoon bus stop location.
OSSEC - Olympia Schools Supportive Educational Council

SBA Testing in May
Washington State Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) will occur this May 14th, 16th, 21st and 23rd. Testing will take place within the school day for all 10th graders in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. All 11th graders will take the Washington Comprehensive Science Assessment (WCAS). These tests will fulfill the graduation pathway requirements for Capital High students. We are looking forward to supporting your student as they partake in state exams this year! More information will be in this newsletter as testing day approaches. Go Capital!

Monarch Children’s Justice & Advocacy Center is a program of Community Action Council. Child Advocacy Centers work to reduce the incidence and impact of child abuse by providing a coordinated, multidisciplinary response to victims of child abuse and their families. This response includes prevention, investigation, prosecution, and treatment and includes community partners who are experts in those areas.

Community Action Council Community Action Council of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties is dedicated to addressing the systemic issues of poverty and promoting health and well-being. Programs focus on Health, Housing, Energy Assistance and Weatherization. Energy Assistance appointments are available staring April 5th, 2024
CHS Literary Magazine
Students at Capital High School are working with faculty advisors to create and publish a literary magazine this spring. The magazine will include student fiction, non-fiction, drama, art, and poetry. We are certain this will be a powerful forum for student voice!
While we will raise funds by selling some copies of the magazine to parents and community members, we are also depending on donations to fund our project. We plan to feature donors' names in the publication. Would you be able to donate at any level? Every twenty dollars funds one copy for a student. You can click the donation link here to contribute. All contributors will receive thanks on the Donors page. If there is a particular business name you want to be featured, send me an email so I can associate your donation with the business name.

Library News
The Olympia School District is bringing local Native author Christine Day to CHS for three presentations on May 7th. One way for your student to secure a seat for Day's school visit with secondary students is to let their artistic side shine in the bookmark creation contest. Students should visit the library for an entry sheet with the rules. Bookmark entries are due very soon, by March 28th, to be voted on and produced in bulk by May 7th.
There will also be a free community event from 6:30 - 8:00 in our PAC that evening for all ages to attend.
Alternative Lunch Space
Capital High School has opened an alternative space during lunches for students who are seeking a quiet space to enjoy their lunch period. The “Alternative Space” will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during both lunches, and located in E-1 next to the student store.

CHS yearbooks are on sale for $65. Please see the ASB office to purchase a yearbook.
Counseling Center News
Registration for 2024-25 school year:
Juniors (11th graders) who have not yet registered for next year (even Running Start students) will need to:

- Then make an appointment with their counselor to review their choices at this LINK
Sophomores (10th graders) need to:
- Register for next year's classes NOW at this LINK,
- Counselors will be meeting with students in their 10th English class between March 25th -29th to discuss their choices.
Freshman (9th graders) need to:
- Register for next year's classes NOW at this LINK,
- Counselors will be meeting with students in their 9th English class between April 8th - 12th to discuss their choices.

SENIOR FAMILIES
Remember that this is the final weekend to apply for the CHS Foundation Scholarship. If you fill out this ONE application, you can be considered for over 20 different scholarships. The CHS Foundation Scholarship closes on Sunday April 14th at 11:59pm.
There are other scholarships posted on our website.
HSBP- The High School and Beyond Plan is a graduation requirement. The tasks in Naviance were due on March 1st for Senior students. If you have not completed the tasks, you will not be able to do your Senior Exit Interview. Please talk with Mrs. Smith in the CCRC if you are needing help completing these tasks.
Senior Exit Interview
Mrs. Smith will be contacting Senior students via school email to complete their Exit interview after the Naviance tasks are completed. Here is some information regarding the interview:
