CHSPO News

Hello CHS Parents,

The Capital High School Parent Organization (CHSPO) is excited to see you at the upcoming Open House next week! Be sure to stop by our table to meet some of our board members and learn how you can help support our amazing CHS staff and teachers.

We also wanted to share a few upcoming fundraisers that will benefit CHS programs and events:

• September 24 - Enjoy delicious food from La Esquinita and Sweetlee’s food trucks during the Open House! A portion of the proceeds will be donated back to CHS.
• October 10 – MOD Pizza (Westside location): Support the Class of 2026 Grad Night by dining at MOD Pizza. Just mention the fundraiser or show the flyer when ordering.
• October 18 – Red Robin (Westside location): Grab dinner at Red Robin before the Homecoming Dance and support CHSPO! Be sure to mention the fundraiser or show the flyer when you order.

Yearbook Information

All photo deadlines and submission information can be found on the Capital High School website https://capital.osd.wednet.edu/activities/yearbook Senior portraits are due October 31st. This is a hard deadline!! Please email [email protected] with any questions!

CHS ASB will not be selling pre-orders of yearbooks, you must use the link above.

Books are currently $60, but the price will go to $65 on Dec 1 and $70 March 1!!

 

CHS Library News

The CHS library invites parents/guardians to stop by next Wednesday night during Open House for an opportunity to write an encouraging note to your student and/or students you know.  We'll provide the Coug-themed stationery and deliver it to them by the end of the week.  Give your kiddo a positive shoutout to stay strong as they start their school year!

OSD Secondary School Social Workers

The OSD Secondary School Social Workers are excited about the new school year and are looking forward to working with families and students.  If you could benefit from the assistance of a secondary School Social Worker, please contact your school and review our webpage.

 

September is National Suicide Prevention Month

We can all help prevent suicide. Every year, organizations and individuals across the U.S. and around the world raise awareness of suicide prevention during September, National Suicide Prevention Month.

Below are National Organizations with information on suicide prevention.  

• 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
• National Alliance on Mental Illness
• Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

PSAT Information

Students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT on Monday, October 20, or Tuesday, October 21, at 9:00 AM in Room D-10 during school hours. The test is approximately 2.5 hours long.

Registration is available at the ASB office for $50. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch can receive a fee waiver.

Don’t miss this chance to practice for the SAT and qualify for scholarships!

 

Join us for Capital High School Open House!

Join us for CHS Open House on Wednesday, September 24th from 6:00–8:00 PM beginning in the Performing Arts Center!

This is a great opportunity to:

• Meet your student’s teachers and learn about their classes
• Connect with club and activity advisors
• Visit ASB to take care of fines and fees
• Shop for Cougar Spirit Wear at the Student Store

Come early to enjoy a free baked potato bar in the Commons starting at 5:00 p.m., complete with live music from our talented jazz band and orchestra. Then, meet your student’s teachers, explore our clubs and activities, and discover all the ways to get involved at CHS. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Special Event: Senior Parent Meeting from 5:15–5:45 PM in the PAC.

• If you are unable to attend, please speak with your Counselor or attend Senior Parent Night that evening.

Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2026—join us for an important meeting before Open House!

• Wednesday, September 24th
• 5:15 PM
• Capital High School PAC

We’ll cover key senior year and graduation information.
This session is especially important if your student was unable to attend the Senior Information Meeting earlier in the day.

 

Restorative Practices Build Stronger Relationships

At Capital High School, our entire faculty is committed to fostering strong, positive relationships with every student. We want all scholars to feel a sense of belonging in a supportive learning community. To help achieve this, our staff participated in a two-day Restorative Practices training before the school year began.

Restorative Practices are approaches that address behaviors which harm relationships or disrupt our learning environment. By talking through incidents and exploring the impact on others, students and staff work together to create agreements that repair harm and help prevent future issues.

Restorative Dialogues
One tool teachers use is the “restorative dialogue,” an informal conversation guided by questions such as:

• What happened?
• What were you thinking at the time?
• Who was affected by what happened?
• What can you do to make things right?
• What do you need to resolve the conflict?
  
  

These conversations often lead to an agreement to repair the harm and rebuild trust.

Classroom Circles
Teachers also use “circles” to build community and connect with students. Circles provide everyone with a chance to be heard, listen to others’ perspectives, and work together to resolve challenges or set classroom agreements.

Our Restorative Practices Center
Capital High School also has a dedicated Center for Restorative Practices that supports teachers and facilitates more formal conferences when issues extend beyond what can be handled in class. Working closely with administration, the Center brings people together to address conflicts, find common ground, and develop fair agreements.

News from the CCRC

The CCRC is the place to find all things College and Careers, Volunteer opportunities, Scholarships and much more. All students are welcome to meet with Mrs. Smith and see what is available for them.

Students can log into SchooLinks and start to complete their To Do's for their High School and Beyond Plans. 

Seniors can begin adding their colleges in SchooLinks and linking SchooLinks with their Common Apps. If any student would like help on how to do these, Mrs. Smith in the CCRC is willing to help. They can schedule an appointment with this link Schedule Appointment
